REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS TO OBTAIN A VISA TO ENTER LIBYA
Visa Process
The Libyan visa is a two step process:
STEP ONE: OFFICAL TRANSLATION
Your application will be hand carried to the Arab Chamber of Commerce for an Arabic translation of the your passport vital pages.
STEP TWO: VISA PROCESSING
Then the application is hand carried to the Libyan Consulate Office and the visa is usually processed in 3 business days. The Libyan Consulate Office is closed on Fridays.
Passport
Please send TDS your current valid and signed passport. It must not expire within 6 months and must have at least one blank visa page. If you do not have any blank visa pages in your passport, TDS can assist you in applying for additional pages. If your passport expires within 6 months, you must renew your passport and then we will secure your visa with the new passport.
Photo
Please send 2 recent professional passport-type photographs.
Digital and non-passport photographs are not acceptable.
Proof of Departure
Please send a copy of your round trip airline tickets, or itinerary or e-ticket, or letter of confirmation from a travel agent. The itinerary must show the applicant's name, date of arrival and departure from the country, and flight information. The Embassy does not recommend purchasing your ticket prior to a visa being issued.
Business Letter
A business letter of responsibility (sample) is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead and addressed to:
Embassy of Libya, Visa Section, Washington DC
The letter must explain all of the following:
Nature of business to be performed
Name and address of reference to be visited
This letter should request Multiple Entries visa if required
Guarantee of return transportation and sufficient funds for the visit
The letter should be signed by an officer of the company other than the applicant.
Authorization
Government authorization or approval document to enter Libya (usually supplied by a Libyan corporate sponsor)
Offical Translation
An official Arabic Translation performed by the Arab Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC, of your passport vital pages is required.

Additional Helpful Information
The LIBYAN business visa is usually issued for single entries for a period of 90 days from date of issue, provided the passport remains valid, for a period of stay not to exceed 30 days, or as approved in your authorization document.
Passport must have at least six months remaining validity, and contain at least one blank visa page for visa to be issued.
