Brief Introduction
The United States of America became the first country to recognize the independence of the Republic Kazakhstan and to establish the diplomatic relations with Kazakhstan on December 26, 1991. Both the American Embassy in Kazakhstan and Embassy of Kazakhstan in Washington, D.C., were opened in 1992.
Since that time, Kazakhstan had four Ambassadors to the USA, Messrs. Alim Dzhanburchin (1992-1994), Tleutai Suleimenov (1994-1996), Bolat Nurgaliyev (1996-2000) and Kanat Saudabayev (2001-2007).
July 25, 2007 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Erlan A. Idrissov presented his letter of Credence to President George W. Bush.

Address and opening hours
The Embassy is located in a picturesque house at 1401 16th Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20036, which is on the corner of 16th and O streets. The nearest underground station is Dupont Circle.
The Embassy is open from 9.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. The consular/visa section is open: 9:00 - 12:00 Monday to Friday, except Wednesday.
